Silverlight cannot be installed in Linux. The reason is that Silverlight is a Microsoft product and Microsoft does not create a release for Linux. The reason Moonlight is slow in development is because the mono-project must await code release from Microsoft (granted it is sporting of MS to release the code at all) and then dev it for Linux.
From the Wine site, it looks as though some folks using Gentoo AMD64 and Ubuntu 8.04 got Silverlight 3.0 functioning to some extent in Wine with the MS release of FireFox. It does not look as though Ubuntu 8.1, 9.1, nor 10.4 users were as lucky. I have seen forum discussions in which people were able to use Silverlight in VirtualBox.
